Emil and the Detectives Book Cover

The Penguin Random House Design Award gave the brief of redesigning the children's book 'Emil and the Detectives' by Erich Kastner. It is a story set in the 1920's about a country boy called Emil going to the big city on a train to stay with his nan. He is trusted with money to give to his nan but when he falls asleep on the train he finds the money is gone and a suspicious man running from the train. He gets off the train following the man and on the way finds twenty boys willing to act as his detectives and create a plan to get the money back. I focused the design on a trainset as a way to connect the front, spine and the back and encorpotate the Puffin Book symbols into the design.
